Remembering John J. Kross Jr. (“Footy”)
We share with heavy hearts the passing of John J. Kross, Jr., lovingly known to so many as “Footy.”
For more than 50 years, John devoted his life to leading Here’s Help, shaping the heart and mission of the organization with compassion, integrity, and an unwavering belief in people. His leadership was deeply personal. John met individuals where they were, often in their most difficult moments, and helped guide them toward hope, healing, and a second chance at life.
Beyond Here’s Help, John was a familiar and trusted voice to generations of South Floridians through his radio career. For more than three decades, he entertained, informed, and connected listeners through his morning radio work on WHYI Y-100.7 and WIOD News Radio 610. His voice became part of the daily rhythm of our community, and he used that platform with intention, heart, and humor.
John generously leveraged his radio presence to raise awareness, break down stigma, and advocate for those seeking recovery. Through his voice, influence, and tireless commitment, he helped save and transform thousands of lives.
John leaves behind a loving family who meant everything to him, along with a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and countless individuals whose lives are better because of his compassion and leadership. His legacy lives on through the work he built, the people he believed in, and the family he loved so deeply.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to John’s family and to all who were touched by his remarkable life. If you wish to honor John’s memory, we invite you to do so by supporting the mission he dedicated his life to.
May he rest in peace, and may his legacy continue through every life helped in his name.
